Sophie Morse is a recent transplant to the Puget Sound region from New England. She has worked as a professional mariner since 1984, operating between the Caribbean and the Canadian Arctic. Ask her about dodging polar bears! Sophie and her husband Gordon Sims are both “retired” schooner captains; most recently Sophie served as master of Massachusetts’ Official Vessel, ERNESTINA. The best part? “Teaching!” (“Oh, and having my meals cooked for me!”) Though shifting gears to a more land-based lifestyle, Sophie loves to introduce others to the joys and rewards of sailing, watching their confidence “unfurl” in a new environment. Sophie has held a USCG license since 1996, and is an ASA Certified Sailing Instructor.Sophie is currently enrolled in the Master of Divinity Program at Seattle University, and anticipates bringing her leadership skills to a whole new arena
