Captain Rex Houchins

Rex began sailing in 1978 on Hobie 16’s while working as a lifeguard in Hawaii. After leaving the Army he returned to the Midwest and continued sailing scows on the inland lakes of Minnesota. In the summer of 2003, Rex capitulated to the inevitable and moved to the Seattle area. The sunshine of the next three summers often found him on a J-35 with a very active racing schedule. Rex’s love of sailing is very evident in his classes. In his own words: “One of my great pleasures in life is being able to share my passion for sailing and planting the seeds of that passion in the lives of others.”
