Women’s Sailing Program

Seattle Sailing Club offers a range of Women’s Sailing Programs throughout the year, open to members and non-members alike who identify as female or non-binary. Our activities aim to foster an atmosphere of encouragement and support, empowering women to pursue their sailing aspirations in a comfortable and supportive environment. Whether you’re a new sailor embarking on your first class, aspiring to be a a skipper or even a Captain, cruising the Puget Sound, competing in regattas, or setting sail for global adventures, our women’s sailing programs eagerly invite participants of all experience levels and interests. The Women’s Sailing Program promises an enjoyable opportunity for women to learn, share experiences, and sail together!

Upcoming Women-only lessons:

ASA 102 Keelboat Sailing 2

Class dates: March 28 & 29, from 9am – 5pm each day.

ASA 102 is the perfect step for sailors who want to get more time at the helm and take their skills to the next level. Building on what you learned in ASA 101 and beyond, this hands-on course is all about time on the water – fine-tuning sail trim, improving boat handling, and gaining confidence in a variety of wind and sea conditions. With very little classroom time, ASA 102 keeps the focus where it belongs: out on the water, practicing real-world techniques that make you a more capable and confident sailor. This course is also ideal for experienced sailors – including racers and ASA 104 and 106 grads – who want to deepen their understanding of sail trim, helming, and vessel control.

More information on the course can be found on our Sailing Lessons page.

ASA 104 Bareboat Charter

Class dates: July 20 – 24

Take the helm with confidence in our Women’s Only ASA 104 Bareboat Charter course. This live-aboard certification teaches you how to plan, lead, and execute extended voyages aboard a larger, auxiliary-powered sailboat – preparing you to charter and captain your own boat on Puget Sound or around the world.

Over the course of this immersive training, you’ll gain experience in advanced sail trim, docking and maneuvering under power, anchoring and mooring, systems management (engine, electrical, water, and heads), navigation, weather planning, provisioning, and crew leadership. Our experienced instructors emphasize real-world application in a supportive, hands-on learning environment. Upon successful completion, you’ll earn your ASA 104 Bareboat Cruising certification, qualifying you to charter cruising sailboats and captain your own coastal adventures.

Women’s Racing Program

Summer racing programs at SSC are tons and tons of fun! Monday nights are spent racing in Sloop Tavern Yacht Club’s Ballard Cup and we are so proud of our all women J/105 team!

Coaching

The women’s race team often participates in the Ballard Cup Monday Night Series. With an experienced skipper on board, the women’s crew can build on sailing skills they already have and begin to learn the ropes of sailboat racing. We invited all levels of experience to join the women’s race team!

SSC is a wonderful knowledgeable community- instructors, sailors, students- who welcomed a new sailor like me with open arms. Everyone I meet is passionate about sailing, wind, waves, adventure and community… I signed up for an overnight sailing to Poulsbo with the SSC Women’s group.
I loved every minute! Margaret is a remarkable instructor: her guidance, patience and insight ensured that every moment of this trip was of full of learning and successes. I learnt so much this weekend! The boat was great, wonderfully equipped, comfortable, well maintained and safe. I highly recommend Seattle Sailing Club to everyone interested in learning to sail!
