International Proficiency Certificate Package

Get the International Proficiency Certificate and Cruise beautiful blue waters! The American Sailing Association created an International Proficiency Certificate (IPC) to ease their member’s experience while planning to charter internationally.  ASA recommends their members to apply for an IPC if they plan on sailing in the Mediterranean, along with the inland waters of Europe or Northern Europe. The IPC is accepted by most international charter companies in the Mediterranean as adequate proof of bareboat skipper proficiency. Before planning your trip, it is best to check with the charter company before attempting to charter.

In order to apply for an IPC, sailors must first have their ASA 101 through ASA 104 certifications, which is where SSC fits into the picture. Experienced sailors who qualify at the ASA 104 level can obtain these certifications by taking the ASA 104 exam and completing an on-the-water skills checkout here at the Club.

To obtain these certifications, the first step is to pick up the course materials and study for the 104 exam. When you’re ready to take the exam, give us a call and we’ll schedule it for you. Once you’ve passed the ASA 104 exam, we will help you schedule your 4-hour on-the-water skills checkout with one of our USCG Licensed/ASA Certified Instructors.  Completing and passing the ASA 104 exam automatically grants sailors their ASA 101 and ASA 103 certifications (which are included in the cost of our IPC package).

Once they have passed the ASA 104 examination and the on-the-water skills check-out, sailors must still apply for the International Proficiency Certificate itself through the ASA website. This certificate is granted by the ASA itself, and not included in this package.
