Captain Ted Moskal points to a whiteboard while teaching sailing

Captain Ted Moskal

Ted grew up messing about in boats of all shapes and sizes in his hometown of Gloucester MA. In 2021, he found a flyer, applied for and was accepted to a job crewing on a series of catamarans in the British Virgin Islands, and was drawn into the wacky world of working and living on boats.
For the last few years, Ted has spent his winters working as a mate aboard different tall ships up and down the East Coast, West Coast, Hawaii and the Caribbean. In the summers, he teaches ASA sailing lessons at Seattle Sailing Club and works as a captain and educator for Northwest Maritime in Port Townsend, where he currently lives on his C&C 33 “Capricious.” This winter, Ted decided to take a break from sailing full time and enroll in a 9-month Marine Systems program at the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding, where he will get certified as a ABYC marine technician. He’ll then go on to work aboard a NOAA research ship in Alaska while teaching sailing during his off months.
Ted holds a 100 ton Near Coastal Master license and a 200 ton Oceans Mate and is certified to teach ASA 101. When not sailing or doing boat projects, Ted enjoys long runs and kayak camping.

Ted was an amazing instructor and went above and beyond sharing his sailing knowledge. 10/10 experience. Brian H, ASA 101 Keelboat Sailing 1
