Captain Aaron Price
Aaron discovered sailing in 2016 at the UCLA Marine Aquatic Center in Los Angeles, where he learned on Catalina 14s, Lasers, and RS Visions. For two years, he immersed himself in the local sailing community, becoming a teaching assistant and participating in the Friday night races. His passion for the sport led him to Fairwind Yacht Club, a volunteer-run organization focused on community outreach and shared fleet ownership. There, Aaron progressed through his ASA ratings before earning his instructor certification to give back to the club that had given him so much.
Teaching quickly became a calling, and Aaron went on to instruct at Blue Pacific Yachting and NAOS Yachting in Marina del Rey. His sailing highlights include helping deliver the Andrews 68 Pyewacket from Oahu to San Diego and completing both the Salish 100 and Washington 360 on his Grabner Happycat Hurricane—a 16-foot inflatable catamaran that travels under the bed of his van. He’s raced the Newport to Ensenada and made countless trips to Catalina Island and the Channel Islands, building deep knowledge of Southern California waters. A recent transplant to Seattle but originally from Vancouver Island, Aaron is excited to rediscover his homeland from a new perspective on the water.
Aaron brings 30 years of rock climbing experience, 20 years of paragliding, and 5 years of whitewater kayaking to his sailing instruction. This diverse background in wind and water sports gives him an unusually deep understanding of weather, currents, and the natural forces that drive sailing. His teaching style emphasizes hands-on learning with students spending maximum time at the helm and managing the boat. He tailors every lesson to each group’s goals and adapts his instruction to match individual learning styles, ensuring everyone leaves with confidence and practical skills they can immediately apply.
Aaron is certified to teach ASA 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 114, and 118.
