Captain Laurie Anna (LA) Kaplan
Laurie Anna, (or “LA”, as many call her), grew up day-sailing and cruising on the east coast/New England where she caught an insatiable bug for the ocean and a lifelong passion for sailing. During her land-locked college years, she would chase her parents on their liveaboard to places like the Bahamas, Florida keys, and the BVI. Missing the salt water, she moved to the PNW after graduate school where she learned to embrace Gore-Tex and the year-round outdoor playground of the PNW. Since then, she has owned, raced and cruised boats in the Salish Sea and beyond. Many events, adventures and shenanigans from local one-design racing to larger ocean/offshore regattas, deliveries and cruising in these beautiful waters.
More recently, she has left her tech career and can be found teaching, coaching and mentoring new sailors and boat owners when she isn’t racing other people’s boats (OPBs) or cruising her own boat. In addition, Laurie Anna is an advocate and leader in local programs and events that support advancing the joy, skill and opportunities for women to be on the water.
When she isn’t teaching skiing in the mountains, she enjoys helping clients achieve their maritime goals with training, deliveries and charters. Laurie Anna holds a 50T Master Inshore USCG License and is certified to teach US Sailing and American Sailing Association courses (101-106). She is also available for private lessons, charters and deliveries.
