Captain Michael Sawyer
Michael grew up sailing on small centerboard day-sailors in the North Carolina outer backs with his parents. He moved to Hawaii for graduate school where he had his first taste of sailboat racing; he spent ten years there participating in organized races in the vicinity of O’ahu on a variety of keelboats
In 2008, after a few seasons in Chicago racing on Lake Michigan, Michael moved to Seattle and joined the Seattle Sailing Club. Here in Seattle, he spent a few seasons crewing on various keelboats, mainly aboard in the Flying Tiger fleet, before purchasing the J/80 Fearful Symmetry to lease to the club. He has raced Fearful Symmetry for over a decade and is also the owner of the Club Hanse 342 Silver Girl. You’ll see Michael at the club often, either skippering Silver Girl in Club flotillas, as one of the Club’s race coaches, and as an instructor certified to teach ASA 101, 103, and 104.
