Captain Scott Marr

Scott grew up just outside Chicago and spent his summers sailing and powerboating along northern Michigan’s Inland Waterway. He began in Sunfish and local race crews before moving up to a Laser II dinghy, eventually competing in District and Great Lakes Championships on Lake Michigan and qualifying for the U.S. Nationals.

As his family grew, Scott transitioned to keelboats, spending 26 years cruising the Lake Michigan coastline and making crossings aboard a Beneteau 285 and later a Jeanneau 35. He also enjoyed winter day charters in San Diego and Tampa Bay.

Now retired after a 40-year career in banking, Scott and his wife split their time between coasts to be closer to their sons – one in South Carolina and one in Seattle – and their growing families.

He has since earned his USCG Master license (25 GRT, Near Coastal, with Auxiliary Sail Endorsement) and holds American Sailing certifications through Seattle Sailing Club to instruct ASA 101, 103, and 104.

Scott brings decades of hands-on experience and a genuine love of sailing to every class. He’s passionate about helping sailors grow their skills with confidence, safety, and enjoyment on the water.
