Captain Shyah Miller

Shyah’s love of sailing began on the racecourse. After first learning to race Thistles at age twelve, she went on to compete across the country and gradually shaped her life around sailing. In 2021, she left her job in video production to pursue offshore sailing and earn her USCG 25-ton Master’s License. Since then, she has logged over 10,000 offshore miles as delivery crew and as an apprentice with 59° North Sailing, learning to appreciate the small moments at sea – rainbows in the spray, moonlight on the ripples, and the challenge of chopping carrots that keep rolling away.

Although she has sailed all over the world, after racing in the 2025 Washington 360 she’s convinced the very best sailing is right here in the Pacific Northwest. Shyah looks forward to helping others find their own place on the water and sharing her passion for light-wind kite trimming. When she’s not sailing, she’s likely working on her boat, stargazing, or juggling with the Cascade Jugglers at the Ballard Community Center.
